Demonstrations

2012 will be an amazing experience at the Rainier Valley Garden Tour.  The following are the demonstration planned for 2012.  Please note that these are subject to change...just as life is:
  • Cisterns and water catchment  -- rain barrels and cisterns as an alternative to public water lines; tapping Seattle's greatest resource: rain.
  • Small  space, Containers and Vertical gardening -- how to make due with small, urban spaces
  • Beneficial insects -- the grubs that make the world go round:  who do you want sleeping in your flower bed?
  • Garden Structure -- raised beds, masonry and stonework as a way to define garden space
  • Year Round Gardening -- keeping the garden going through wind and snow and sun
  • Garden Art -- how to add interest to the garden and yard through found objects and handiwork
  • Canning and Preservation -- saving your produce for winter enjoyment
  • Composting/Soil Building  -- utilizing the resources you already have to improve and cultivate your garden
  • Goats and Chickens, urban farm  -- living within the city of Seattle shouldn't prevent anyone from creating a healthy life style for themselves and their family
  • Readers to Eaters  -- mobile gardening bookstore providing educational resources for those interested in learning after the day is done
  • Rain Gardens -- designing and installing a water conscious garden, utilizing poor drainage and adding interest to the natural Seattle yard
  • Music in the garden -- local performances for mood and atmosphere:  sustainable relaxation
