Volunteer Opportunities

The 2012 tour hasn't been scheduled yet, but there is plenty of pre-work to be done.  The actual tour starts for the public at 10:00 am and goes until 4:00 pm.  Throughout the day, the demonstrators need some assistance...and so do the hosts.  Volunteering isn't a major commitment and doesn't last a lifetime, but it is a great way to be involved in the community and meet some amazing people.

What is needed:
  • day-of volunteers helping those doing demonstrations
  • presenters to teach our guests about the many facets of sustainability
  • publicity and networking (getting the word out)

What this means for volunteers...

Work Days - We do go out into the neighborhood to meet all of our soon to be friends, but we do have to find them first.  Come be a part of "Digging up Gardens" and help us build an amazing tour this year and set ourselves up for success in the years to come.

Special Events - We would like to spend a weekend prior to the tour educating our volunteers about the different topics being demonstrated on tour day.  Also, there's something to be said about pre and post-tour barbecues...

Community Education Program - There are many teens and novice gardeners that are hungry to learn.  The crew works on the tour year round, which means that there are opportunities for us to learn from each other year round as well.  Let us know what you're interested in beyond the tour.
